More information

This modern groundcover rose bears Sussex blooms with double form and pointed tips, bright apricot that fades to creamy at the edges, with a golden tone on the central petals. Individual blooms hold peak color for no more than a day; afterward they fade to pink and off-white, the stamens turn brown, and the petals reflex so the bloom appears flat. Flowers are produced on long sprays of 3–10, and new blooms open to replace older ones. The foliage is dark green, with bronze young growth. The shrub is open and spreading. It reblooms reliably, including in colder climates such as its native Denmark.

This cultivar is among the roses named in honor of the English counties represented by Mattocks of Oxford; the series includes varieties from multiple breeders. Sussex flowers are creamy apricot, double, with about 24 petals, small, and cup-shaped. They appear in clusters ranging from small to large over an extended period on a low, spreading bush. The foliage is small and abundant.
