More information

Sun City is a rose that can be grown in containers or in open ground and managed as both a floribunda and a polyantha. Owing to this growth habit, the spray rose Sun City is often used for various beds and flower borders. A notable characteristic of the cultivar is its nearly continuous flowering. Small, bright yellow blooms follow one another throughout summer and autumn. Sun City is suitable for bright borders and small beds; due to the compact size of the shrub, it is commonly placed in the foreground. The bush can be shaped by pruning; the maximum height of the variety is 60–80 cm, and shorter pruning results in a more compact, fuller plant. The flowers are small, 5–6 cm across, and appear in lush clusters of 5–10 per stem. The fragrance is subtle and barely perceptible, with fruity notes. Petals are slightly wavy, opening from a bright yellow bud into a neat, cup-shaped flower and gradually becoming lighter; in hot weather, the petal color may fade to pale yellow. The first flowering is the most abundant; later blooms are continuously replaced by new buds. The shrubs are low, branched, and spreading. Leaves are dark green, shiny, and small. Although the shoots are short, the variety is suitable for cutting and for making baskets. These roses are used both in group plantings in the foreground and as solitary, abundantly flowering shrubs on lawns. The rose has high winter hardiness and good disease resistance; during autumn cold, preventive treatment against fungal diseases is recommended due to possible black spot.
