Dark burgundy-red, heavily waved blooms with flat centers; foliage abundant and leathery. The shrub is upright, bushy, and very compact. Flowers profusely over a long period, tolerates rain, and does not scorch.
Souvenir de William Wood is described as a variety with the darkest flowers and is recommended for semi-shade. It is noted that remontant roses with dark and very dark blooms should be placed only in semi-shaded locations, especially where they are not exposed to the full midday sun. ‘Prince Camille de Rohan,’ ‘Souvenir de William Wood,’ ‘Sultan of Zanzibar,’ etc., if subjected to only one hour of midday sun, will be completely scorched.
