More information
A rose associated with high fashion. Small, conical buds appear on flexible, sturdy, light-green shoots. Pink blooms with an amber edging open into wide, silky cups filled with many wavy petals, often flattened. The fragrance includes tones of tea rose, pear, banana, and honey.
This fountain shrub resembles its relative ‘Abraham Darby’. The flowers are cup-shaped, flattened, and very fragrant. A very hardy variety.
Jean-Pierre Guyot bred the Generosa series as a French interpretation of old-style roses—fragrant and continuously blooming. ‘Sonia Rykiel’ is included in the series and is dedicated to the French fashion house. The flowers are pink at the edges and coral or amber in the centre, with pointed outer petals surrounding a dense, flattened rosette. They usually appear singly, sometimes two or three together, against dark foliage. The fragrance has won a number of awards. The flowers droop, and the bush can produce long shoots up to 2.5 metres that may be out of proportion.
