Recent breeding in recent years has emphasized the development of ground cover roses. Sommermorgen is a cultivar suited for use as a groundcover rose and in landscape plantings, and it also functions as a garden plant. The bush is wider than tall, suited to the front of a border, and blooms until late autumn. The flowers are soft pink, with darker undersides and often wavy petals. When open, they display a cluster of dark yellow stamens in the center, surrounded by a white spot. They appear in clusters of up to 15, usually 4–7, above dark, glossy foliage. The foliage is small, the bush is compact, and it is almost without thorns.
