A soft pink rose; the petals are paler on the reverse and the colour lightens toward the edges. Borne on reddish stems, the cup-shaped blooms are medium-sized and relatively informal, with almost corrugated petals arranged around a distinct 'eye'. The fragrance is medium-strong, in the old rose style, with notes of fruity lemon, green banana, and apricot. A medium-sized shrub showing strong disease resistance, with glossy dark green foliage, a broad-spreading habit, and arched shoots. Named after the hero of George Eliot’s classic novel.
