Shoking Blue bears fuchsia-pink blooms with a purple reverse; because light and shadow play across the wavy petals, the flower can appear dark purple or purple. The blooms are large, with a hybrid-tea-like shape, and are produced in clusters of 3–9. Stems are long, and the cultivar is grown commercially for cutting. The shrub is narrow and elongated, a habit consistent with florist use. Shoking Blue is strongly fragrant. Foliage is dark, glossy, tough, and shows disease resistance. The plant grows quickly and responds well to pruning, producing new flowering shoots rapidly. The largest and most intensely colored blooms are obtained in cooler weather.
Inflorescences can be very large, with up to 100 flowers per cluster; the variety is strongly fragrant and classed as a lilac floribunda, with a defined flower form.
Double blooms are fuchsia-raspberry at the half-open stage, maturing to lilac. Fragrant, vividly colored flowers perform well for cutting. The bush is very well branched, reaching up to 1.2 m, and flowering is very abundant. To stimulate further bloom, prune shoots after each flowering wave.
