More information
Once-blooming David Austin cultivar of complex parentage, registered as Hybrid Macrantha, Shrub under the name Scintillation in the year 1968, that is to say one of the first David Austin varieties. The shoots are stiff and frequently exhibit a curved, “irregular” profile and habit of growth. Relatively resistant to precipitation and wet conditions (in the cold, wet summer of 2017 in St. Petersburg, during that period the blooms were practically not damaged by rain; however, the stamens darkened after rains, and the bloom faded by the third or fourth day of its life). The flowers are semi-maroon, with carved—sometimes appearing torn—edges, passing into a wave at full opening. The fragrance is noticeable to the observer.
