More information
This vigorous hybrid tea rose is considered among the darkest red roses currently available. Schwarze Madonna has no detectable scent. The flowers are large, very full, very dark red—almost black—with a velvety appearance, especially on the outer petals. They retain colour well; blooms persist on the plant for a long time and hold well when cut. Flowers usually appear singly at the ends of strong shoots. The shrub is tall and robust, with dark green, glossy, disease-resistant foliage that contrasts with the blooms. Well-branched, the plant becomes vigorous over time, producing many long canes, each terminating in a bloom.
Matte, velvety red flowers contrast with glossy foliage; it performs well as a cut flower. Blooms are almost black, large, and very full. Foliage emerges reddish, then matures to dark green and glossy. Fragrance is weak, and the bush is erect and well-branched.
