More information
Samourai (Samourai) is a red rose cultivar dedicated to the mother of Henri Delbar. The shrub is upright with straight stems; height 80–100 cm, width 60 cm; foliage glossy green. Buds are pointed, dark red with a velvety tinge; cup-shaped, large, about 10 cm in diameter; terry, with a light fragrance. Petals are velvety; the flowers hold their shape well and, at the end of blooming, shatter cleanly. In strong heat, Samurai flowers can “melt,” so in southern regions seedlings should be planted in beds with light midday shade. Spines are medium. Flowering is abundant. Flowers are mostly solitary. Rose Samurai is suitable for cutting. Cut flowers last in a vase for up to two weeks. The rose is resistant to disease. According to Peter Harris, when Scarlet Knight is used in a rose breeding programme, self-pollination produces almost 100% red and red bicolours.
