More information
Russeliana is a rose with buds resembling miniature cabbage sprouts. The blooms open dark crimson and fade to lilac-pink; the petals carry white streaks that produce an appearance of twisted, deformed segments. Petals are paler along the margins and have pointed tips. Inflorescences form in large, loose clusters; flowers are borne densely and show an irregular, tousled form. Foliage is sparse, stiff, and dark green, and the shoots are very prickly. The plant performs well on poor soils and is easy to cut. It is regarded as a hybrid between Rosa multiflora and the Gallic rose. Susceptible to black spot and powdery mildew.
