More information
The original Rouge Meilland was a European cultivar—the first rose to be patented in Europe, in 1951. François Meilland had long advocated for breeders’ rights. His cultivar, Mme A Meilland, generated substantial profits in the United States, but none in Europe. The flowers are bright red, with an elegant form, borne on long shoots. The foliage shows resistance to disease. The bush is erect, with strong, stiff shoots.
