More information
This rugosa hybrid has several characteristics. Firstly, Rotes Meer has the darkest purple flowers of all rugosas. Secondly, it develops a compact bush, which is uncommon for rugosa. Because of this, the rose can be grown as a ground cover. It also has a strong fragrance. Flowers are semi-double, with golden stamens in the center, appearing in clusters of 3–9. It blooms abundantly until the first frost. The foliage is bright green, wrinkled, disease-resistant, and becomes bright yellow in autumn. The bush is low and rounded.
