More information

This hybrid Rugosa is sold as a groundcover rose, but in hot climates it quickly reaches 1.5 m and forms a bushy shrub. Rote Apart produces semi-double, dark crimson-purple flowers with wavy petals and pale golden stamens at the center. Blooms appear in clusters of up to 8 and are followed by bright red hips. The plant continues to flower until the first frost, so hips and blooms occur together in autumn. The foliage is bright green, typical of Rugosa, with distinct autumn coloration. The petals are thin and rain-sensitive, and the cultivar is suited to cold climates.
