Jean Gaujard managed the Joseph Pernet-Duchet nursery in Lyon, and Rose Gaujard is his best-known variety, still widely distributed worldwide nearly 50 years after it was bred. It is a vigorous, upright Hybrid Tea rose, with large exhibition-type blooms borne singly at the ends of long, strong shoots. The flowers are bright carmine or cherry pink, with petal undersides that are almost white, producing a marked contrast between face and reverse. Buds are classically glass-shaped. The foliage is dark green, large, and disease resistant. It blooms abundantly in repeat cycles; sometimes the main flush occurs in autumn.
The large flowers of Rose Gaujard are cherry red with pale pink and silvery white undersides. They are very full, consisting of 80 petals, cup-shaped, and lightly fragrant. The foliage is leathery, large, and shiny. The bush is tall and strong.
