More information

There are two roses in Germany named Rokoko. One is a low, pink Rugosa introduced by Baum in 1990. The other is an apricot-pink schrab introduced by Tantau in 1987. Tantau’s Rokoko is more widely distributed. It forms a tall, vigorous shrub that blooms in clusters of large flowers with wavy petals. The flowers are double and tolerate rain well; when open, they show orange stamens in the center. Buds are apricot, and the blooms gradually fade to pearl-cream. The foliage is abundant, and the bush is branching with a regular habit.

Originators assign this cultivar to the ‘Nostalgic Dreams’ series because of its resemblance to historical roses. The connection across generations is reflected in slightly corrugated petals, soft coloration, and a distinctive fragrance. Large golden-yellow, ochre-tinted buds open into pastel-colored flowers. The bushes are upright, about 1.3 m high, with sturdy yet flexible shoots, slightly transparent due to moderate foliage. It is used in grouped single plantings near seating areas.
