More information

Robusta bears scarlet blooms. The variety is tall and strong; in Paris it is grown as a low petal rose. Flowers are simple; sometimes with a small tuft of stamens in the center, though these are often underdeveloped and not visible; many rugosa roses are completely sterile. Blooms open from elongated buds and appear in short clusters of 5–10. The shrub is very prickly; shoots are densely set with long thorns, making handling without thick gloves difficult. Large, bright green, wrinkled foliage surrounds the flowers. Grows well in poor soils and is very winter-hardy. Susceptible to black spot in some regions.

A sturdy shrub with dark, leathery foliage and thick, thorny shoots, reaching 1.5 m. Flowers are simple, fragrant, bright crimson-red, cup-shaped at first, with wavy petals. Blooms very abundantly all summer and autumn. A hardy variety, tolerating practically any weather and soil conditions; shade-tolerant. Forms a dense hedge.

Planted in rows, this hybrid of the wrinkled rose (Rugosa) forms an impenetrable hedge. The plant is upright, dense, very prickly, and covered with large, shiny dark green foliage described as immune to disease. It blooms in May; the first wave is followed by several more. The flowers are large, simple, crimson. Tolerates rain well, but is almost odourless. There are 2 other varieties with the same name: the pink large-flowered pleached rose and the densely waved red Bourbon rose.

Robusta blooms almost continuously. The flowers are simple, large, and bright red. It is a hardy rose, easily propagated by green cuttings. Very spiny shoots form a tall, upright bush suitable for framing lower plants. Large, textured dark green foliage and wine-red shoots. Delicate fruit scent. Usually dies back to about 50% in winter without shelter, but regrows quickly and flowers profusely by mid-July.

The flowers are dark red, large, simple, gathered in small, dense inflorescences. Used to create tall (up to 2 m) hedges along land-use boundaries.
