More information

Reine des Violettes is widely cultivated. It is noted for flower coloration, which varies with season, planting site, soils, and climate. Blooms are usually deep purple, fading to purple-purple. Petal reverses are silvery pink at the same time, creating a marked contrast in the flattened bloom, especially visible at the central button. Flowers are short-lived, appear in tight clusters on short stems, and their arrangement resembles Portland roses. Foliage is matte; shoots are almost smooth and nearly thornless. The plant is responsive to care and performs well in hot, dry weather.

A straight, almost thornless bush with shiny grey-green foliage and very fragrant, quartered flowers with a button at the centre. Colour is deep red-purple with tones of purple, lavender, and violet with grey hues. Blooms do not last long. Height to 1.5 metres. Abundant repeat flowering. Requires good soil and regular watering. Can be pruned quite heavily.

The remontant hybrid class is often noted for lax growth with emphasis on profuse bloom; this applies to Reine des Violettes to some extent. The bush often lies on the ground and flowers mainly at the ends of long shoots; proper pruning mitigates this. Long shoots are often bent to the ground to stimulate flowering on side shoots. The rose is responsive to care.

Remontant rose with double carmine-red flowers that later turn purple. Blooms several times per season. Fragrant, with a sweet scent. The bush is almost thornless, with grey-green foliage. Shoots are erect at first, then drooping. Bush width is approximately equal to height and is about 2 m.

Cup-shaped flowers reach 7.5 cm in diameter, purple-red in colour. Grey-green foliage on nearly hairless reddish shoots. Can be frost hardy without shelter.

This remontant hybrid bears very full, pink-purple flowers that fade to purple. Petal undersides are lighter and more silky, while the outer surface is velvety. Blooms are flat with a central button, appear singly or in small clusters, and have a strong, complex fragrance. Flowers fade quickly. Foliage is sparse, silvery green. Shoots are almost smooth. The bush is branched, tall, and spreading. Strong pruning is used to maintain a compact form. Long, flexible shoots can be trained on a support. Requires good soil to perform well.
