More information
Is this a climbing rose or a groundcover rose? Red Cascade can be managed in either role. Without support it forms a loose, low shrub. It is sometimes recommended for hanging baskets: it trails, but quickly outgrows the space. Size depends on climate: hot regions produce larger plants. It shows several notable cultural traits. Small, dark red, cup-shaped blooms, borne in dense sprays, appear by the thousands. Flowering is nearly continuous, continuing until the first frost. Blooms hold well when cut. Inflorescences typically carry 5–25 flowers. The foliage is small, abundant, glossy, and disease-resistant, characteristic of Wichurana hybrids; the shoots are densely armed with thorns. When grown as a groundcover, it roots readily where stems contact the soil. Cuttings also root easily.
