More information

Raubritter is a hybrid from Wilhelm Cordes’ crosses with Canina rose (R. canina). When the flowers first open from small, pointed buds, they are fully spherical, with only a slight opening at the top. The petals are deep pink, but most of the color remains inside the bloom; the visible reverse sides are silvery pink. Flowers are borne in large, loose clusters (10–40 per cluster). Production is high; the petals are thin and soft, and dry weather is preferable. The foliage is small, thin, and susceptible to powdery mildew and black spot. Stems are slender, armed with many thorns, and the bush is spreading. Raubritter can be grown as a tall climber, a medium-sized shrub, or a low groundcover rose.

A large, sprawling bush that in early summer carries pink flowers in large clusters. A characteristic feature is that the petals curl inward. The plant forms a cascading habit. Flowers remain on the plant for a long time before dropping. Susceptible to disease.

This hybrid, bred by Cordes, results from a cross with a species rarely used by breeders—Rosa macrantha. It is a shrub with slender, drooping shoots. Winter hardiness is high; although black spot appears at the end of the season, overall susceptibility is not high. The small pink blooms are spherical, with a fragrance reminiscent of fresh black pepper. Flowering starts late and continues for a long period. Propagates readily from cuttings.
