More information
Quadra is a winter-hardy variegated rose introduced in 1994. The shrub has a spreading habit, reaching about 1.8 m in height and 1.0 m in width. Though it recalls John Davis and William Baffin, its densely petalled bright red blooms make it distinct among winter-hardy variegated roses. Disease resistant. Dark red buds open to deep red flowers, later fading to light red. Blooms are up to 8 cm in diameter and appear in clusters of 1–4. Easily propagated by cuttings. Winter-hardy without protection in zone 3; young shoots may freeze.
Quadra presents hundreds of bright red petals set in a symmetrical arrangement, similar to old Gallica roses. Petals curve toward the center, showing a peony-like form; as the flower opens further, the petals begin to reflex downward. The fragrance is light and fruity. The shrub has glossy foliage, upright growth, and slightly curved shoots.
Explorer Series Rose. Dark red buds open to deep red blooms, with slight fading to dark pink. The plant has strong growth and can be used as a climbing rose. Resistant to diseases. Shoot tips can freeze, but overall the cultivar is winter-hardy.
