More information

This variety is hardy even in the coldest regions of the world, and its flowers are large and appear almost continuously throughout the summer. As a result, Prairie Dawn has been widely used in further hybridisation and is now the progenitor of many varieties. The flowers are semi-marginal, in clusters of 3–6. They are a rich, warm pink when first opening, then fade slightly, especially in hot weather. Prairie Dawn’s foliage is fine, dark green, and shiny; the bush has an upright, airy habit. It is susceptible to black spot, but this does not affect the vigor of the plant’s growth, and the variety does not require special care. In warm climates it can be used as a climber, or trained down an obelisk. Reaches 3 metres in height.

Susceptible to black spot. Very winter hardy.

One of the Prairie series of roses, this tall, very winter-hardy shrub rose is virtually frost-free in Minnesota’s subarctic winters. The rose is somewhat susceptible to black spot, but overall the rose is disease resistant. The flowers are semi-marginal, bright pink. Blooms in several waves all season long. Flowers are medium-sized, about 7.5 cm in diameter, with a medium fragrance. Suitable for cold, wind-exposed locations.
