More information
Polarstern is a creamy white hybrid tea rose. It forms a large, upright plant. Buds are cream to ivory. Half-open flowers show a lemon tint at the center, while fully open blooms are brilliant white. The flowers are very full, with petals curving downward. Their density provides good rain resistance; buds are rounded and open slowly. In hot weather the blooms open completely and reveal golden stamens. Bud, half-open, and fully open stages are clearly defined. Flowers are almost always solitary on long, stiff stems. The foliage is large and generally disease resistant, though occasional powdery mildew may occur. Polarstern flowers very abundantly; although blooms appear in successive waves, the shrub is rarely without flowers until just before autumn.
A profusely flowering, medium-sized shrub to 1 m tall with pale green, sparse foliage and spiny shoots. Flowers are very large, creamy white, and odourless. Tolerates poor soils.
Creamy buds develop into large, goblet-shaped flowers on long, sturdy shoots. In plantings, its colouring and profuse blooming are notable characteristics. Suitable for beds where a large bush is required. The fragrance is almost absent, but the flowers tolerate wet weather better than most white varieties and have a long blooming period. The bush is tall and erect, and the foliage is dark, matte.
