More information

Penny Lane represents the first in a new generation of Harkness pleached roses with flowers shaped in an old-fashioned style. The blooms are large, double, and very full of petals. Their centers are apricot, fading to ivory at the edges. They are borne in small clusters of 3–5 flowers. The rose reblooms, though it is not among the most floriferous pleached roses. Foliage is dark, glossy, and healthy; shoots are slender and easy to train.

In 1998 this rose received the UK Rose of the Year title, noted as the first variegated rose to receive this distinction. Penny Lane shows old garden rose aesthetics together with continuity of flowering. Shoots are firm, and the foliage is dark green with good disease resistance. Honey-toned blooms fade to pale pink. Suitable for “rustic” plantings.

The coloration is subtle, in a golden-champagne tone. Early on, pink nuances are visible, later fading nearly to white. Blooms are large, borne in dense clusters, up to 9 cm across. The flowers hold well, showing resistance to rain and wind. This cultivar is among the most free-flowering within variegated roses. Cyst-like inflorescences may carry more than 11 blooms. Clusters open progressively over a prolonged period; through summer one wave succeeds another, with flowering lasting many weeks. The shrub is vigorous, reaching 3–5 m in height and 2–3 m in width. Branches are flexible and readily directed. It tolerates partial shade and cold conditions. Foliage is dark green, shiny, and abundant. Disease resistance is reported.

This pink variegated rose produces large, cup-shaped flowers with an old-fashioned form and fragrance. At opening they are soft pink, quickly shifting to a soft peach tone with a honey-colored center. It flowers continuously and is suitable for obelisks, pergolas, and arches. The bush is strong and upright, reaching up to 4 m.

A curly rose with flexible canes. Leaves are glossy, dark green, and show no disease in description. Flowering usually begins in early summer. Blooms are light apricot, borne in dense clusters, with a light fragrance. Under favorable conditions, it reblooms.

This is the first pleached rose to receive the UK Rose of the Year title. It is noted within variegated roses for its old-style blooms. Flowers are densely clustered, with wavy petals, increasing in size with age. Color is pearl pink with a slight apricot tint in the center. It flowers almost continuously through summer and autumn on long, graceful shoots. Blooms are typically solitary, occasionally appearing in small clusters. The flexible shrub reaches a medium height. Foliage is plentiful and glossy.
