Papa Meilland is a red Hybrid Tea noted for strong fragrance; the scent is bright, rich, and sweet, and the cultivar has received several awards for fragrance. Buds are elongated; blooms are dark, velvety red with a redder center and a well-formed outline. Flowers appear singly at the ends of long stems and perform well as cut flowers. Petals shatter readily. The plant forms an upright, thorny bush and performs best in hot climates. The foliage is susceptible to powdery mildew. Flowering is not abundant.
