Nicolas is a winter-hardy shrub rose introduced in 1996. The compact plant reaches 75 cm in height and width. It flowers from June to September, is resistant to powdery mildew, though it can be affected by black spot. Flowering is abundant; the blooms are red, up to 6 cm in diameter, semi-double, borne in clusters of 1–3. Easily propagated by cuttings. Hardy to zone 3 without protection, with only slight frost on shoot tips. In spring, only light pruning is required.
