More information
David Austin’s breeding efforts extended beyond ever more refined English roses. His work with ‘Martin Frobisher’ produced several rugosa hybrids that retain the character of his roses and are winter-hardy, suitable for Scandinavian and Canadian climates. The flowers of ‘Mrs Doreen Pike’ are very dark pink or pale crimson, rosette-shaped, fading to pinkish-lilac at the edges and much lighter on the reverse. They appear in small clusters of 3–7, densely set, sometimes with a button in the center, shaded by fine, rough-textured foliage that may suffer from chlorosis. The shrub is compact, branched, prickly, and very wide. Used as a border plant across climates, and used in landscape plantings or as a groundcover.
This variety has large flowers with wavy petals forming rosettes of about 40 petals. They are warm pink and very fragrant. The shrub is low, branched; the foliage is small, abundant, and pale green. Disease-resistant, and reblooms abundantly.
