More information

Rosa × pruhoniciana ‘Hillieri’ (syn. Rosa moyesii ‘Hillieri’) is a shrub rose and species cross, bred by František Zeman in former Czechoslovakia before 1924 and introduced in the United Kingdom by Hillier Nurseries Ltd. in 1924 under the name ‘Hillieri’.

Flowers are dark red to deep pink with brown shading, single, with 4 to 8 petals and clearly visible stamens. They are medium-sized, moderately fragrant, and are borne mostly solitary or in small clusters. The plant flowers once in spring or summer.

The shrub has an arching, bushy, dense, upright, well-branched growth habit with small, dark green foliage and stiff stems. It typically reaches about 305 cm in height and 185 cm in width. The plant forms large, orange, flagon-shaped hips and is considered vigorous, with decorative fruiting.

It is tolerant of poor soils and shade and can be grown as a small climber if given support. It is hardy in USDA zones 6b through 9b. For optimal performance, additional care and feeding are recommended.
