Mountbatten became known in the UK, appearing in Princess Diana’s wedding bouquet in 1981. The variety was named for Prince Charles’s great-uncle, Earl Mountbatten, who was killed in 1979. The blooms are a rich, glossy yellow with a pink flush along the petal edges, later fading to lemon-yellow. Flowers are cup-shaped, with outer petals reflexing downward, while all petals curve inward. They form on long clusters of 5–11. The bush is vigorous, upright, with tough, disease-resistant foliage. It grows tall and requires pruning to promote further flowering.
A yellow floribunda from the 1980s. It has won numerous awards; the flowers show a tiered arrangement on the plant. The blooms are double , canary yellow, sometimes with a pinkish rim, about 8 cm in diameter. Lightly fragrant. The bush is upright and strong, with prominent prickles and dense, dark green foliage. Suitable for hedges.
The coloration is deep yellow, similar to mimosa. At times, but not consistently, the petals take on pink tones with age. Petals are firm and resistant to wind and rain. The large blooms, with shorter inner petals wrapped inward, reach 9 cm in diameter and retain color for an extended period. The scent is medium, with notes of lemon, honey, and musk. Flowers appear in small clusters, up to 5 per cluster. On strong shoots they rise above the foliage and flower freely. Growth is vigorous. The bush is powerful and dense, with many strong basal shoots. Height reaches 1.4 m and width 1 m. Performs well in varied conditions, including light shade. The plant is densely clothed with glossy, dark green foliage. Disease resistance is high, though black spot may occur in unfavorable conditions.
