More information
This Canadian rose is noted for high winter hardiness and a distinctive colour. Within the Explorer and Parkland series, it bears radiant red blooms; on closer inspection the petals are bright orange-red with a scarlet base. The flowers are cup-shaped, semi-double to double. They appear singly or in clusters of up to 5, after which large rounded hips form. Foliage is dark green and can be susceptible to powdery mildew and black spot in damp conditions. The first flush is very abundant, followed by mostly single blooms. Buds may fail to open in wet weather. In very cold climates, Morden Fireglow can serve as a substitute for floribundas that do not survive severe conditions.
Subject to black spot. May freeze back in harsh winters, but is generally winter hardy.
Morden Fireglow has bright orange-red flowers, an uncommon colour among winter-hardy roses. Buds are pointed and open to loose, fragrant, cup-shaped blooms. Flowers are double, with about 28 petals and a red inner petal surface, appearing in small clusters. The shrub is low, branched, and reblooms. Globular hips ripen if spent flowers are not removed.
