More information
A sport of La Reine Victoria, Mme Pierre Oger is identical to the original except for colour. Petals are soft pink with crimson tips; being paler than La Reine Victoria, they are lighter in colour. The bush is upright. The variety is susceptible to powdery mildew and black spot, and in humid climates it is almost impossible to grow without preventative spraying.
An old rose with the same cup-shaped flowers as Reine Victoria (the parent from which the sport arose), but the blooms are milky white or pale pink, depending on the weather, with crimson petal edges. Fragrant. The plant has a spreading, lax habit with long, smooth, almost thornless shoots, reaching a height of 1.8m if not pruned and a width of 1.2m. Flowers are borne along the entire length of the shoots. In spring, hard pruning forms a dense bush; light pruning maintains a weeping habit. The rose can be bent parallel to the ground or supported like a bush rose. Somewhat susceptible to black spot.
Cache-shaped flowers about 5 cm in diameter, lilac-pink in shade. In harsh winters without shelter it will die out completely.
Bourbon rose. Rounded buds with red streaks open into double, deep-cupped blooms 5-7cm in diameter. Newly opened flowers are pale pink and retain this colouring in cloudy weather, but in sun the petal edges darken to cherry-pink; the brighter the sun, the more intense the colouring. Fragrant flowers appear in early summer, followed by moderate re-blooming in summer and a third profuse wave in autumn. Flexible, slightly spiny shoots are densely covered with light green foliage. The bush is narrow at the base, with fountain-like drooping shoots that give a vase-shaped outline. In most regions it reaches 120-180cm tall and 90-120cm wide. Suitable for the back of a mixed border, in combination with low-growing pink perennials such as carnations. It can also be grown on a support. Susceptible to powdery mildew and black spot, though the plant is not usually seriously weakened.
