More information
This rose bears large, densely petalled blooms of deep pink. The blooms are flat to flattened; at full opening they appear ruffled, with golden stamens visible at the center. It tolerates semi-shade, particularly in hot-summer climates, and is suitable for cuttings. It also tolerates poor soil, though establishment is slow. Susceptible to powdery mildew. The drooping shoots can reach 1.8 m and carry dark green foliage with a red underside. Ernest Calvat (d. 1910) was a glover and gardener. The rose was discovered by the breeder’s wife, Madame Schwartz, who continued her husband’s work and introduced two other varieties, Roger Lambelin and La Tosca.
