Hybrid between Rosa roxburghii and Rosa rugosa, classified as Hybrid Roxburghii, Hybrid Rugosa, Shrub, and Species Cross. Flowers are light pink to violet-pink, mildly fragrant, about 10 cm in diameter, single with 4–8 petals, and borne mostly singly. It blooms once in spring or summer. The shrub is armed with thorns or prickles, bushy, upright, and well-branched, with medium, semi-glossy, dark green, rugose foliage, typically with 9 to 13 leaflets. Height reaches up to about 215 cm and width up to about 120 cm. It is suitable for USDA zones 6b through 9b. The plant forms round orange hips. It was bred in France by Maurice Lévêque de Vilmorin before 1905 and introduced in Germany by Gärtnerei Henkel in 1910 as Rosa X micrugosa.
