Mary Magdalene is an English rose in the style of Chinese roses—moderate in height and very floriferous. Blooms open pearly pink, with a slightly darker reverse and a coral tone at the centre. They quickly fade to pale pink and then to ivory. The petal reverse is always paler. The flowers are densely clustered, shallowly cupped rosettes, with many petals surrounding a central button. They maintain their form through the flowering stage. They appear singly or in clusters of up to 7 pc (usually three), and remain upright without nodding. The leaves are small and dark; young growth has crimson-edged foliage. The shrub is dense, well-branched, and generally disease-resistant, though slightly susceptible to powdery mildew.
