More information
Marechal Niel is a yellow rose cultivated in hot regions. With good care and in favourable conditions, it flowers in late spring, when the bush becomes covered with drooping blooms. The colouring varies from apricot to pale lemon-cream, typically with golden tones in each flower. The blooms fade fairly quickly and can acquire a pinkish tinge. Flowers usually appear singly and hang under their own weight. It has many petals, but they are thin, so it performs better in dry climates. The foliage is pale green, large, and abundant. The thorns are large and red. The variety is susceptible to black spot, but is vigorous. It grows better on its own roots and is easy to propagate from cuttings. Named in honour of Adolphe Niel, war hero, marshal of France, and commander-in-chief under Napoleon III.
