This red groundcover rose has numerous synonyms. In Germany it is called Mainaufeuer, in England Chilterns, in the USA Red Ribbons, in New Zealand Canterbury, and in South Africa Fiery Sensation. The variety is cultivated in these varied conditions and climates. The semi-double blooms are bright blood red, with glossy petals and golden stamens at the center. They form large clusters of 10–30 flowers; during bloom the bush is densely covered. The color remains stable, and the petals drop cleanly. The foliage is dark green, glossy, and disease resistant. The plant is creeping, spreading, and closely hugging the ground, producing basal shoots that flower at the tips, then bend under the weight of the blooms and subsequently flower along the full length of the shoot.
