Magic Harlequin (Bush Rose)
Magic Harlequin is a compact bush rose (Hybrid Tea type) bred by Reinhard Noack in Germany before 2019. It was developed within modern rose-breeding programs that aim to combine strong growth, hardiness, and repeated flowering over a long season.
**Flower characteristics**
- Type: Hybrid Tea rose
- Colour: Light apricot flowers with an apricot reverse and pink outer petals
- Size: Average flower diameter about 10 cm
- Form: Large, double blooms with approximately 17–25 petals
- Fragrance: Mild
- Blooming: Repeats in flushes throughout the growing season, from spring to autumn
**Plant characteristics**
- Growth habit: Compact, bushy, and well-structured
- Height: Up to about 70 cm
- Foliage: Glossy, dark green leaves
**Growing conditions**
- Soil: Prefers well-drained soil to reduce risk of root rot and support healthy growth
- Light: Performs best in full sun to partial sun
- Hardiness: Comparable to other modern bush roses when grown in suitable conditions
**Planting and care**
- Planting time: Commonly planted in spring to allow establishment of the root system
- Pruning: Best done in early spring to maintain shape and encourage new flowering shoots and an abundant number of blooms
**Companion planting**
- Can be combined with plants such as lavender (which can attract pollinators) or delphiniums (for height contrast) in mixed plantings.
