More information
The blood-red, fragrant blooms of Lilli Marleen have been widely grown for over 40 years. Known for its colour and tidy habit, it produces clusters of 3–15 flowers that retain their colour well, giving frequent coverage of bloom. The shrub is compact, with fine, dark foliage, and flowers are distributed across the entire canopy, comparable to modern groundcover roses. Requires powdery mildew prevention, but otherwise resistant to disease. A plaited form exists that can be trained into a column densely set with bright red flowers.
Velvety, dark red buds are borne in clusters and open to scarlet, cup-shaped flowers about 8 cm in diameter. A light pink fragrance is noticeable only at close range. The variety blooms throughout summer. The shrub is about 0.5 m tall, with foliage that is initially reddish, later matte green. Seldom affected by disease; often used in public plantings. Also used for hedges. This rose has received several awards.
