Discovered by the Italian Gianlupo Osti in China, on a roadside near the eponymous city.
Presented in Italy by Walter Branchi in 1995 as ‘Lijang Rose’.
Hybrid Gigantea, Tea, climber.
Pink. Moderate tea fragrance with apricot or peach notes. Large, semi-double to double flowers. Abundant bloom in spring or summer; later, single flowers. Under favorable conditions, repeat flowering is possible.
Bright green foliage with purple tones on spring shoots. Stems are very prickly.
Climbing liana. Trees can serve as a natural support for this rose.
Height 500 cm. Width 300 cm.
USDA zones 7 to 11. Prefers warmth. Requires protection from spring frosts, which can cause damage, dieback, and death of the plant. Cold tolerance ranges from -12°C to -15°C. Avoid planting in cold climates or in mountains above 600 m.
Probably a hybrid between R. gigantea and the cultivar R. x odorata.
The ‘Lijang Rose’ plant in an Italian garden was identified as Rosa odorata var. erubescens.
