More information

This Boursault Rambler rose, known as 'Alpina rosea' and also as Rosa x l'heritierana, was bred in France before 1820 by an unknown breeder. Flowers are purple with a white center and white streaks, described as lilac-pink to light violet and classed as a mauve or purple blend and pink blend. Blooms are medium-sized, about 7 cm in diameter, double with around 17 or more petals, borne in clusters, and have a flat form with glandular and leafy sepals. The rose has no detectable fragrance and flowers once in spring or summer. The plant is tall, arching and climbing, with few or no prickles, matte foliage with fringed stipules, and 5 to 9 leaflets. It typically reaches 300 to 400 cm in height and about 245 cm in width. It is hardy in USDA zones 6b through 9b and is diploid.
