Leverkusen is the first yellow kordesii hybrid, combining a pure yellow tone with winter hardiness. The blooms have broad outer petals that fade to cream and shorter inner petals that are dense yellow at the center, later fading to lemon and creamy yellow. Buds are neat, and the petals are slightly wavy at the edges. Flowers open singly or in clusters of up to 10, most commonly 3–5. The first bloom is abundant, and afterward the bush does not stand without flowers. The foliage is small, dark, glossy, and prone to black spotting at the end of the season. The fruit stays green for a long time and does not turn yellow until late autumn.
