More information
Among English roses, L.D. Braithwaite bears flowers of very bright red, a color that persists without fading for an extended period. The blooms are wide open rather than in the ideal old-rose form. It flowers throughout the summer; the bush is rarely without blooms. The fragrance is quite strong. The plant forms a low, wide, open bush.
This strong-growing shrub can be placed at the back of a border so that its somewhat sparse foliage is less conspicuous, while clusters (brushes) of large, double, bright red blooms remain prominent among surrounding flowers. It blooms all summer; in hot weather, the flowers can burn out to cherry-pink. Tolerates semi-shade.
