More information

Although classified among Bourbon roses, this cultivar differs from them in some respects. The blooms are very deeply cup-shaped, barely opening, and appear almost spherical. They are composed of many short, strongly incurved petals of rich lilac-pink, with a pale silvery-pink reverse. The petals are thin, nearly transparent, and sensitive to rain. Flowers come in clusters of 3–9; after the first flush, repeat waves follow at regular intervals until late autumn, with a few sporadic blooms in between. The shrub is upright, vigorous, and well clothed with foliage. The variety is highly susceptible to powdery mildew and black spot, so it performs best in dry, hot climates.

An old rose forming a tall bush with long, drooping shoots that flower along their length. Individual blooms are medium-sized, cup-shaped, pink, and fragrant. The bush seldom carries many flowers at once. Without pruning it reaches about 1.8 m in height and 1 m in width. Requires attentive care to perform well. Susceptible to black spot.

Old Bourbon rose with double, cup-shaped, pink, strongly fragrant flowers. It blooms profusely in early summer; towards autumn it reblooms more modestly. The shrub is erect, fast-growing, yet smaller than most old roses. Grey-green foliage is affected by black spot.

La Reine Victoria, a Bourbon rose, produces globular to very deeply cup-shaped double pink flowers 8–10 cm in diameter. They appear in early summer, with individual blooms through summer and usually a second profuse flush in autumn. The shoots are long and drooping, with matte light green foliage. The bush is vase-shaped, reaching 120–180 cm in height and 90–120 cm in width. Planting against a support is practical, as stems bend under the weight of the flowers. Removing spent blooms keeps the bush neater and prolongs flowering. The variety is susceptible to powdery mildew and black spot, yet its vigor is not reduced.
