When Wilhelm Cordes first saw this rose, he reportedly said, “At last—my perfect rose.” Kordes Perfecta combines colour, fragrance, size, and form: its blooms are creamy yellow with dark pink margins, which deepen in cold weather and fade in heat. They open from large buds; the petals take several days to unfurl, producing a classic hybrid tea form with pink-edged petals. Flowers are borne singly at the ends of long, sturdy shoots, and the plant sometimes sends up an unusually long shoot that carries many single blooms along its length. For many years it was widely known and remains suitable for cutting. The shrub is upright, vigorous, prickly, and shows disease resistance, though shoots can be brittle. Foliage is dark and glossy. Repeat bloom is slower; autumn flowers are especially bright. Fragrance is strong.
Cone-shaped buds open to 10–12 cm flowers, densely waved, with about 65–70 petals. High-centered, goblet-like blooms are creamy white with a crimson edge; as temperatures rise, additional crimson tones appear. Blooming is not very profuse, but winter hardiness is fairly good.
