More information
The English name, Colour Wonder, refers to the variety’s multi-tonal blooms: each flower displays several shades. The primary colour is salmon pink on a yellow base. When sunlight passes through a newly opened flower, the colouring appears golden and orange; over time the blooms darken and become more red. The underside of the petals is much paler, later developing a pink edge. In addition to the variable colour, Konigin der Rosen has an old-rose, many-petalled form when fully open; the cultivar was bred in the 60s. Blooms usually appear singly, occasionally in small clusters, and they last a long time on the plant and as cut flowers if taken at half bloom. The shrub has an open centre, strong, thick shoots, and many large thorns. The foliage is large, dark green, and disease resistant; young shoots and leaves are crimson. It flowers very profusely and grows well in poor soils. ADR certified in 1964 .
