More information

This historic rose is regarded as a hybrid between R. alba and R. damascena. The flowers of Königin von Danemark are deep pink in the center with lighter edges. Blooms are flat, densely petalled, rosette-shaped, sometimes very flat, with a central button. Flowers are carried in clusters of 3–9; clusters can be heavy enough to make the branches droop. Leaves are dark grey-green—greener than those of R. alba—and firm. The shrub is relatively compact and very thorny.

An Alba-group cultivar with a comparatively compact habit for this group. Flowers appear in clusters of 3–7. Fragrance is pronounced, and the variety is reported to be disease resistant. Foliage is dark green rather than the characteristic blue-green typical of many Alba roses. Winter hardy in very cold regions.

A shrub about 1.5 m tall and 1.5 m wide, with long branches that often bend under the weight of the blooms. Shoots are more heavily armed with thorns than is usual for Alba roses; foliage is stiff, bluish green. Flowers are bright pink, paling with age, with a yellow button at the center. Strong fragrance. Once-blooming. Tolerates partial shade and poor soils, though it prefers open, sunny sites. Suitable for hedges. Long shoots can be shortened by one third to promote flowering.

Queen of Denmark is a vintage rose. Although not as large as most scarabs, its blooms have an open bowl form with numerous petals that encircle a central button. The pure pink coloration is brighter than in many Alba-group roses, fading to a delicate pink before petal fall. The fragrance of Königin von Danemark is notable. The cultivar roots readily. Shoots are very thorny. The bush is tall, well formed, and clothed in grey-green foliage. Like other Albas, Königin von Danemark flowers once.

The flowers are cup-shaped, densely petalled, up to 7.5 cm in diameter. Resistant to black spot. Usually freezes without winter protection.

Flowers are pink, medium-sized, double, rainproof, and strongly scented. In summer, shrubs (to 1.5 m or less) carry abundant bloom.
