Breeders often name roses after family members. Kathryn is the eldest daughter of Sam McGredy IV, the last in a dynasty of Irish rose breeders. ‘Kathryn McGredy’ bears large flowers, the shrub is densely branched, and the typical flower color is delicate salmon pink. The coloration is variable—pastel salmon or delicate pink—depending on climate and weather. The blooms retain a regular form. The cultivar produces numerous flowers. It also blooms early in the season. In the first flush the flowers appear usually one at a time (and they are large), while later in the year they are smaller and carried in wide clusters, usually 3–5 together. The foliage is dark, disease resistant, glossy, with bright crimson young growth.
