More information

Among Pemberton musk roses, ‘Kathleen’ is a wild-rose-type cultivar. A true musk rose, it is vigorous and free-flowering. The single flowers are pale pink, fading to white. They open from coral buds and carry a tuft of golden stamens at the center. The blooms are produced in large clusters, usually 10–30 per truss, on long shoots, and are accompanied by dark, glossy, disease-resistant foliage. Small red hips follow. The shrub is tall and graceful, suitable for use as a pleached rose, and also for the back of a border, providing an accent without occupying much space. Abundant repeat bloom, especially in autumn.

This musk rose bears small single flowers, while the plant itself develops into a large shrub or can be trained as a pleached rose. Reddish-pink buds open to single blooms about 3 cm in diameter. The color is light pink, fading to almost white, each bloom showing a tuft of golden stamens in the center. Flowers appear in large clusters, and the flowering period is prolonged. The most abundant flowering is in early summer and autumn, with fewer flowers in midsummer. The shrub is fountain-shaped, spreading, reaching 120–250 cm in height and 200–300 cm in width. It can be grown as a climbing rose when tied up. Tolerates semi-shade.
