More information
Carmine to deep pink blooms, large, double, aromatic. Flowering is heavy: 3 to 19 buds per shoot. Bushes are very vigorous, exceeding 2 metres in height. Used in parks and as solitary plantings.
In most cultivars of this group, flowers are large and double, with a pronounced “pink” fragrance. Growth habit is upright and strong. Leaves are dark green, matte, and fairly dense. After summer pruning, the cultivars rebloom (remontant). Winter hardiness is higher than in tea roses: in the south of Ukraine and the steppe Crimea they can overwinter with earthing up from autumn (25–30 cm). In more northern and eastern regions, lifting for winter is required. In the southern regions of the Union, only a few cultivars of this group remained in cultivation.
Flowers bright scarlet with a salmon base of the petals, solitary, more often 2–5 or more per inflorescence; cup-shaped, double (37 petals), strongly fragrant, very large (9–12 cm in diameter). The colour fades in the sun and the petal tips turn bluish. Flowering starts in the middle or third decade of June; re-flowering is moderate. Fruits set well. Flower stalks are strong and long. Bush height is 120–180 cm. The bush is spreading. Leaves are dark green, glossy. The variety is markedly affected by powdery mildew in August.
Use: group plantings, cut flowers.
