More information
Kardinal 85 is a large-flowered, velvety crimson hybrid tea rose, bred primarily as a cut-flower cultivar, and also suited to garden use, especially in warm regions. The rose is almost scentless; in the cut-flower trade, fragrance is considered to shorten vase life. Buds are nearly black, and the blooms open very slowly. The outer petals reflex, while the inner petals unfold gradually into a classic high-centered form. In the garden the flower is bright red, shifting to crimson pink after a few days. In the vase, the bloom keeps its red coloration and resists fading for an extended period. Petals are dense, and flowers appear singly or in pairs at the ends of long shoots. Shoots lignify quickly and carry numerous thorns. Shows high disease resistance. Rebloom is frequent, in repeating waves.
